Helping OAS During the Holidays

Animal lovers often ask how they can help animals at the shelter during the holidays.  First, consider making a donation to Friends of Oakland Animal Services .  This non-profit organization makes it possible for OAS to care for injured animals, helps to support the volunteer program and funds quality of life improvement projects for shelter  animals.
You may also want to consider adding any of these items to your holiday shopping list.  The donation of these items can really make a difference in the lives of animals during their stay at Oakland Animal Services!

  • Large Black Kongs - Volunteers distribute kongs filled with yummy soft food to every dog in the Shelter.  This is especially important for Shelter dogs who have to stay at the Shelter for a long time while the Shelter works to legally remove ownership from abusive owners.
  • Ping Pong Balls - Shelter kitties love to play with ping pong balls!  They are fun and easy to clean!
  • Towels
  • Pens - Staff, volunteers and visitors to the Shelter are always needing pens to write descriptions of animals, fill out adoption paperwork and lost animal reports.
  • Pet Shampoo
  • Digital cameras with SD cards and digital voice recorders - We would like to ensure that each of our Animal Control Officers has a digital camera and digital voice recorder to carry with them to document evidence of animal abuse and neglect.  We have been very successful this year in getting these cases charged and these tools really help!
