8/4/12: UPDATE: Dave has been adopted! Thank you and congratulations to his new family!
8/2/12: Last week, we told you about Dave, this sweet older dog pictured below. We are thrilled to tell you that Dave has been selected to be the recipient of a donation that covers his entire adoption fee. Recently, Alex from ASPCA lost her companion dog of many years, Holly, and her coworkers wanted to honor Holly’s memory by helping another dog. Dave and all the staff and volunteers at OAS are thankful for this opportunity to improve Dave’s chances at finding that forever home where he can be adored as much as Holly was and live out his senior years happily with his new family just as she did.
Dave, a yellow lab & retriever mix, came to Oakland Animal Services (OAS) as a stray in May, but if you spend just a few minutes with Dave, you’ll quickly see that Dave was most certainly someone’s beloved companion. We estimate that Dave is around 12 years old, with a smooth, sandy coat and big brown eyes that quietly take it all in. While he looks old on the outside, Dave is very much young at heart. He loves nothing more than to carry around his favorite stuffed animal and collapse at your feet awaiting gentle touches and snuggles. Dave appears to be housetrained and has excellent recall. He knows many basic commands and wants nothing more than to please and be close. It’s easy to love his gentle spirit. And because of his spirit and age, Dave won’t be a high-energy dog who needs long walks each day; he’s just looking for a loving, kind home with people willing to take care of an aging dog—one who has no doubt taken care of his people with equal gentleness. Regardless of age, we think Dave is cream of the crop. Come meet him, and we know you’ll think so, too.
