For the entire month of July, Oakland Animal Services is waiving adoption fees for all of our adoptable animals! Come meet a new dog, cat, or bunny (or even a hamster!) to join your family.
If you’re thinking of welcoming a dog to your family, please note that the shelter currently has an outbreak of Canine Influenza Virus (CIV). CIV is treated with supportive care, and the best way for our dogs to recover is in a home environment. However, there are some restrictions on bringing a dog home. There must be no other dogs in the home, and you can only walk the dog in a private yard (no shared spaces or public areas) for four weeks. If you don’t have this space, you can still adopt a dog and OAS will be able to quarantine the pup for you. Please ask the OAS staff if you have any additional questions.
If you’re thinking you might want a kitty cat, consider some of our long-term residents. Or maybe even two cats. Take a look at some of our bonded pairs, cats who always have their best friend around.
If you’re thinking of adopting a cuddly bunny, you can view our available rabbits here. Adopting a rabbit is a long term-commitment! Pet rabbits live for 8-12 years and should live indoors with supervised outdoor time in a safe enclosed area. You can learn more about caring for a pet rabbit here.
Our standard adoption requirements will still apply, so please come prepared to meet all of the the requirements outlined here. Please note that if you are an Oakland resident, there will still be a $15 license fee for any dog that you adopt.
