Oakland Animal Services is currently not taking owners surrendered cats or healthy stray cats/kittens until further notice. Intake is limited to kittens under 2 months or sick or injured adult cats only.
This is for the following reasons:
- Limited cage space.
- Limited capacity for spay/neuter at OAS.
- Most animals are getting spayed/neutered at outside clinics, but in far smaller numbers than would be possible in-house.
- The reduction in spay/neuter limits the number of cats/kittens that are taken by our transfer partners.
