Meet Canelo, the independent and sweet senior boy in need of a loving home! At 13 years young and 61 lbs, Canelo may be a senior, but he's still full of curiosity and charm. He's mostly interested in observing the dogs in other yards, showing his laid-back and easygoing nature. On leash, he's a breeze to walk, making strolls around the neighborhood a joy.
Recently, Canelo received some much-needed TLC from one of our volunteers. Although he was covered in fleas and flea dirt, he remained stoic and well-behaved throughout his flea bath, medicated bath, and ear flush. This sweet boy truly deserves a comfortable and loving home where he can enjoy his golden years in peace!
Canelo just went to temporary foster with one of our staff members and since bringing him home, we discovered a few things about Canelo:
- Despite his initial standoffishness with other dogs, he can be forward and may attempt some humping behavior, likely due to the stress of shelter life. However, he responds remarkably well to corrections. Canelo has settled in nicely since coming home.
- Canelo lights up with excitement at the prospect of a car ride and behaves well when tethered to the back seat.
- Even though he's a senior, Canelo still has plenty of energy and affection to offer! He enjoys leisurely strolls around the yard but ultimately prefers to be by your side, relaxing in his bed while I'm nearby.
- What Canelo truly needs is a soft, comfy bed to rest on and time to decompress and recover from URI, loss of appetite, stress, and depression. He would thrive in a home with someone who works from home or can provide him with a consistent routine.
