Friends of Oakland Animal Services wants to send Oakland’s homeless animals Home for the Holidays! All year long, FOAS donors help to make homeless animals’ dreams come true. Now, an anonymous donor has challenged us to raise $25,000 before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve–and we’ll get an additional $25,000 for Oakland’s animals! It’s our largest matching gift challenge to date–and it means that the value of your year-end gift made by 11:59 pm on December 31st will be doubled.

Statement Regarding Severely Neglected Dog
On December 14, at 7:24 am, Oakland Animal Services (OAS) received a call regarding a dog that appeared to have been severely neglected. Our first officer arrived on the scene by 8:30 am and found a dog in dire condition. OAS seized the dog, and took it for emergency veterinary care, and an officer from OPD arrested the owner. OAS has initiated an investigation and will pursue appropriate remedies.
We appreciate that this situation caught people’s attention and want to address the limited facts we can share as well as the disinformation on social media. We share the community’s outrage at this horrible act of cruelty.
November 30 is Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving!
Friends of Oakland Animal Services will be doing a very special Giving Tuesday campaign, for one of the highest impact programs we’ve ever funded. Your gift can help create happier, healthier lives for Oakland’s animals. Join FOAS on Giving Tuesday!

Planned Giving Webinar on Oct 12
Planned giving is for everyone, regardless of how much you plan to give. It’s a way to recognize an organization that is meaningful and a way to support its mission into the future. A bequest to Friends of Oakland Animal Services is a lasting gift for all of Oakland’s animals.
Join us online, Tuesday, October 12, at 5 pm, for a live presentation from planned giving expert, Kirsten Howe, Esq., Founder and Managing Partner of Absolute Trust Council. Kirsten will briefly explain the how and why of including a bequest in your estate plan and be available to answer your questions.
Registration for this special webinar is free, but space is limited. To register please email: kgoldstein@oaklandsanimals.org

Petco Love grant helps OAS provide free pet services to the community
Thanks to a generous grant from Petco Love, we held our first community clinic that was open to the public in August, serving the residents of East Oakland. The clinic was a tremendous success, with 103 pets receiving medical treatment from our veterinary staff and 12 animals receiving spay/neuter surgery, all at no cost. In addition, pet food and supplies such as microchips, collars, leashes, and tags were provided to pet guardians.
Veterinary treatment included vaccinations, flea medication, microchips, and veterinary exams. Pet guardians with un-spayed/un-neutered pets were able to sign up for free spay/neuter surgery, and almost 50 pets were signed up! These surgeries will be performed by our veterinary staff at the shelter over the next few weeks.
