Brandy and Rodney are two of our longer term residents at OAS. While they came to the shelter separately, by looking at them play together you’d think they’d been friends all their life. Both dogs are volunteer and staff favorites, having received lots and lots of love, attention and great training during their stay at the shelter. They are often seen in our Saturday Basic Obedience class performing like the superstars that they are. We estimate Rodney to be around 1 year old, while Brandy is a just a few months shy of 1 year old. Both dogs are equal parts fun, playful and cuddly. They are having a great time here at OAS (as you can see in this video!) but they tell us frequently they’d much prefer to be in a permanent home with a new family.
Katy Perry is a Pit Bull mix that came to OAS in early September as a stray. Spend a few minutes with Katy though, and you’ll soon see that Katy is used to being around people. A warm, big hearted dog, Katy is as people-pleasing and sweet as they come. She is also incredibly smart and as she has patiently been waiting for her forever home, she became increasingly bored and anxious at the shelter. Our great volunteer and staff team did what they could to keep her entertained, exercise her regularly and give her all the attention they could. We suspect that because Katy has cropped ears, her looks have set her back a bit in getting adopted quickly. However, as any dog lover knows, you simply can’t judge a dog’s spirit by its looks. Katy is the definition of a well mannered, playful Pit Bull mix. Don’t let her looks fool you. Even if you do, her heart will charm you in no time.
Last week, a generous volunteer stepped up to take Katy into her home as foster until Katy’s perfect family comes along. Her new foster mom reports that Katy is house trained, crate trained, and as the picture below shows, gets along swimmingly with her new dog friends. Bob is a Pit Bull Terrier mix that our dedicated Volunteer Mentor Alex adopted a few years ago, after he came to OAS as a stray. Bob was fostered by a rescue group, but Alex just couldn’t resist making him her new best friend! An absolute love bug to the core, Bob is the perfect example of how gregarious, good natured and loving a pit bull mix can be. Bob is friends with dogs, rabbits and people alike. He won the hearts of everyone here at OAS when he was a resident here and now he’s living the good life! This week, Bob was featured on Dogwonderful.com.
