Please see an important message from Ann Dunn, Director of Oakland Animal Services here.
The dogs listed on this page are in urgent need of adoption or rescue.
Dogs below may be listed with an orange “priority” banner or a red “date” banner.
- Dogs with an orange “priority” banner are in urgent need of adoption or transfer, but do not have a euthanasia deadline at this time.
- Dogs with a red “date” banner will be euthanized on the date listed on the banner if they are not adopted or transferred.
If you are a 501(c)(3) rescue organization who can commit to taking any of these dogs into your program, please reach out to oastransfers@oaklandca.gov. Note that there may be additional dogs who are eligible for transfer only listed on our rescue transfer page.
If you are interested in adopting any of the dogs listed below, please come in during open adoption hours Thursdays 12-7pm, Fridays to Sundays 12-3pm, to complete our adoption process as described here.
For more information about these dogs or if you have any questions, visit the OAS At Risk Dogs Facebook page.
Please note that due to being severely unstaffed, we often do not have capacity to answer the phones.
Today, Thursday, November 21st, we have 78 big dogs in the shelter. Our shelter capacity is 73 kennels, and we should always have several kennels open for incoming dogs, so we are currently OVER CAPACITY.
